About Global Data Tracker

What it does

Global Data Tracker is a free website for exploring 20 World Bank indicators across 217 countries and areas. Country profiles, historical charts, side-by-side comparisons, CSV downloads and an optional 3D globe help readers explore the data.

Who it is for

Students, educators, journalists and curious readers who need a starting point for understanding country statistics. No account is required. Definitions, source links and reporting years should be checked before comparing figures; the latest available year differs by country and indicator. Labeled animated estimates are separate from published annual observations.

The build

I am Ben Portman, the solo creator in Ottawa, Canada. I built the initial version in about six hours with extensive AI assistance while becoming more technical. The project uses Next.js, React and TypeScript, with Three.js for the optional globe. Global Data Tracker is independent and is not affiliated with the World Bank or the United Nations.

The source next to every number is the part that sold me. World Bank figures with the reporting year right under each one, 20 measures across 217 countries, and the moving counters say estimated instead of pretending to be exact. What if each figure had an embed snippet, so a teacher or a blogger could drop a live world population counter on their own page with your link under it? That is free distribution.
