Built this to solve my own prompt-management chaos (local-first, free). Is this something you would use, or is it just me?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a passion project I’ve been building over the last few months. Like many of you here, I spend a lot of time switching between different AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.), testing prompts, and manually filling out variables like {{target_audience}} or {{tone}} over and over again.
I got quite tired of keeping my prompt library in messy text files and constantly copy-pasting them into the browser.
To solve this properly, I spent the last few months building a dedicated, local prompt workspace—almost like a lightweight IDE for prompt engineering—called LeanPrompts Studio. Since it has completely transformed my own daily workflow, I thought it might be valuable for others here who take prompt management seriously.
It is completely free, runs 100% locally in your browser (no cloud, no APIs, no external servers, so your prompts stay private), and helps with a few daily pain points:
- One-Click Injection: Directly inject your saved prompts into the chat windows of ChatGPT, Claude, and others.
- Dynamic Variables: The tool automatically detects placeholders in your prompts and lets you fill them out via simple input fields before sending.
- Prompt Version History (Git-Style): Keep tweaking your prompts without the fear of breaking them. It tracks your changes and lets you compare previous versions side-by-side, so you can easily roll back or see exactly what changed.
- Snippet Management: Keep reusable blocks of text or instructions ready to insert whenever you need them.
- Local Archiving: Organize your prompts and knowledge bases cleanly right inside your browser.
I am also currently working on a community platform where we can share and download prompt workflows directly into the extension.
Before I build any further, I’d love to get some honest feedback from people who do this every day:
- Is managing your prompt library across different chatbots still a frustrating part of your workflow?
- Are there specific features you feel are missing from existing prompt managers?
If you want to give it a try and help me test it, you can grab it here:
