About First 1,000 Users

First 1,000 Users is a free map of short, practical guides on how founders get their first users. The 25 guides are laid out by stage: idea and validation, waitlist, private beta, launch, first 100 users and first 1,000 users, so you only read what matters for where you are now.

Every tactic is rated for fit by product type: web app or SaaS, mobile app, browser extension, developer tool, AI tool, open source, marketplace, newsletter or game. A Show HN post is great for a dev tool and weak for a mobile app, and the guide says why and how to adapt. Each guide covers what to do, why it works, how it gets users, common mistakes, and what it costs in time, money and accounts.

Topics range from problem interviews and waitlist referrals to Product Hunt, Reddit launch posts, directory submissions, cold outreach to your first 20 users, alternative pages, early SEO and sponsoring niche newsletters. No account, no email wall.

Bookmarked. Picking what I'm building and what stage I'm at in one sentence, then seeing only the guides that fit, is a really nice way to cut the noise. Every tactic shows time and cost up front, and the no audience yet toggle is a kind touch. What if each stage ended with a tiny checklist I could tick off and come back to next week?

The stage-by-stage map is the useful part most "how to get users" content skips: 25 tactics split across six stages from idea validation to 1,000 users, filterable by product type, time per task, free-only, and "I don't have an audience yet" - which are exactly the constraints an early founder actually has. The tactic titles are concrete ("Run ten problem interviews", "Cold outreach to your first 20 users"), not vague channel advice, and the sequencing alone saves you from doing launch-platform work before you have waitlist proof. Two improvements: from the landing page I could not gauge the depth of each guide before clicking - a one-line outcome or time-to-result per tactic would set expectations. And the "Ask about your case" links to ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity are clever distribution, but a short note on what the curated map gives that a raw AI answer does not (sequencing, stage fit, what to skip) would convert more skeptics right there. Solid, genuinely founder-first resource.
